In-Office Procedures Q & A
What are the benefits of in-office laparoscopic procedures?
Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive technique used to diagnose conditions and perform surgical procedures. The key instrument, a laparoscope, contains lighting and a camera in a long, thin tube. It provides a magnified view that allows your doctor to examine the targeted area.
If surgery is needed, then surgical instruments that are specially designed to fit through narrow tubes are used. All these tubes are inserted through several very small incisions.
The small incisions cause significantly less trauma compared to the single, long incision used for traditional open surgery. As a result, laparoscopic procedures offer advantages such as:
- Less postoperative pain
- Minimal bleeding
- Faster healing
- Smaller scars
- Lower risk of infection
Laparoscopy also allows some types of procedures to be done in the office, so you can go home the same day.
What are the different types of laparoscopic procedures?
These are a few examples of gynecologic procedures that may be performed using laparoscopy, either in the office or in the hospital:
- Tissue biopsy
- Tubal ligation
- Hysterectomy
- Endometrial ablation
- Uterine fibroid removal
- Ovarian cyst removal
Your doctor can also repair pelvic organ prolapse using laparoscopy.
What is an in-office hysteroscopy?
A hysteroscopy is another type of minimally invasive procedure that’s performed in the office at The Ob-Gyn Center, where they use the cutting-edge Endosee® office hysteroscopy.
The Endosee is an innovative handheld device that’s gently inserted into your uterus by going through your vagina and cervix. The Endosee has a long, narrow tube with a camera at one end and a built-in video screen at the other end that gives your doctor a clear view inside your uterus.
An Endosee procedure is done to diagnose the underlying cause of problems such as abnormal uterine bleeding or to diagnose precancerous conditions. Procedures that may be performed during a hysteroscopy include a biopsy, endometrial curettage, and removal of uterine fibroids and polyps.
When removal of uterine fibroids or polyps is needed, your doctor may use the MyoSure® tissue removal system during your hysteroscopy. MyoSure is an incisionless, non-hormonal procedure that allows your doctor to precisely remove polyps, fibroids, and other uterine tissue while keeping your uterus intact. The procedure can also be used to address retained tissue from pregnancy, take an endometrial biopsy, or evaluate postmenopausal bleeding.
Because MyoSure is performed through the hysteroscope with no incisions, most patients return to normal activities within one to two days. Learn more about the MyoSure procedure and the conditions it can treat.
What is NovaSure® endometrial ablation?
NovaSure is a non-hormonal, incisionless procedure that reduces or eliminates heavy menstrual bleeding by removing the uterine lining using targeted heat. The procedure takes approximately five minutes, requires no incisions, and can be performed right in the office at The Ob-Gyn Center, anytime during your cycle.
NovaSure may be right for you if you are premenopausal, not looking to conceive, and experiencing symptoms such as:
- Bleeding longer than 7 days
- Bleeding between periods or after intercourse
- Changing your period product every hour
- Passing clots the size of a quarter
- Extreme pain or discomfort during your period
Unlike laparoscopic procedures, NovaSure does not require any incisions. The procedure is designed to leave your uterus intact by removing only the endometrium, the part of your body responsible for heavy periods. Most women report little or no pain and return to regular activities within a day.
Over 4 million women have chosen the NovaSure procedure, and 94% of patients report satisfaction with their results. If heavy periods are affecting your quality of life, ask your doctor at The Ob-Gyn Center whether NovaSure could be the right option for you.

Why do I need an Essure® removal procedure?
Essure was a permanent method of birth control in which two small implants were inserted into your fallopian tubes, where they caused scarring that closed the tubes. Due to side effects and injuries, Essure was taken off the market in 2018.
If you had an Essure implant, it’s important to have it removed. The doctors at The Ob-Gyn Center offer this surgical procedure in the office.
